PHOAM - YOU & I (SHIFFER REMIX)- TURVE

Three years into their career, electro-rocking four-piece Phoam released their debut album, “Disclosure” in the summer of 2023. Serving up ten slices of chrome-plated, big-sounding tunes with a dark undertow, no one would be surprised to see the band follow in the footsteps of Killers and Imagine Dragons on to the big stages of our big festivals.  

“We have finally found our style: “Coldpop”, says keyboarder Jeroen van Vulpen. And this is how they define their newly-forged niche of joy: “Coldpop” is melancholic, dark, yet vigorous and full of emotions. It oscillates between synthpop and electronic music, combining modern rhythms with sour or blues and adding a playful piano game. The polarizing elements express an inner struggle, creating an atmosphere that is both distressing and powerful.”

The album was received to high acclaim and saw multiple singles get the remix treatment by the who-is-who of the melodic underground. For the latest remix edition Phoam have selected the outstanding “You & I” to get the remix treatment from Swiss sound maestro Shiffer, fresh off a massive release on Innervisions sister label Exit Strategy.

Shiffer showcases his unique rhythmic structures and bold melodic motifs. An ominous beginning is conveyed through deep bass stabs, haunting vocals and smooth sound trails. Swirling effects setup, a mild cross-cultural theme which only adds to its mystical tone.

Moody, melodic, and laced with distinctive percussions are the name of the game throughout, as its wobbly groove powers forward into the break, where stripped pulsations and a calculated build set up an enormous finale. An absolutely massive rework from Shiffer which adds a wonderful interpretation to an already wonderful original track from Phoam. Highly Recommended.
