Listen to Aphex Twin's new unreleased track
Aphex Twin has unveiled a previously unheard track titled “th1 [evnslower],” now available for streaming via Warp Records. The release marks the second track from an expanded edition of Selected Ambient Works II, set for reissue next month to celebrate the album's 30th anniversary.
Clocking in at 11 minutes, “th1 [evnslower]” is an eerie, ambient composition that aligns with the hauntingly minimalist soundscapes found in the original Selected Ambient Works II (1994). The track’s stripped-back yet immersive nature evokes the same sense of sonic exploration and introspection that has defined much of Aphex Twin’s work, making it a fitting addition to the expanded reissue.
The reissue will include three previously unreleased tracks: “th1 [evnslower],” “#19,” and “Rhubarb Orc. 19.53 Rev.” The latter two have only ever appeared on the original 1994 vinyl pressing. The expanded edition will be available across multiple formats, including a four-LP boxset, a three-disc CD, standard pressing, and digital release. Additionally, a special ferric cassette version will also be released on October 4, 2024.
To accompany the reissue, Warp Records has announced a series of “album listening celebrations” in select locations, though further details have yet to be disclosed.
Selected Ambient Works II originally debuted in 1994, when Aphex Twin was in his early 20s. The album became a landmark release in ambient music, following up on his acclaimed debut, Selected Ambient Works 85-92, and cementing James’ influence in the electronic music genre.
