Eleonora - Don't Wake Me Up - Katermukke
Berlin-based multi-instrumentalist Eleonora has carved a place of her own in the electronic dance scene with highly emotional outings and instantly recognizable vocal deliveries, imprinting a personal style in a sea where most things feel like a copy of a copy. Staying true to her nature, the Greman artist now graces the halls of the prestigious Katermukke imprint with the drop of her gripping two-tracker, “Don’t Wake Me Up”.
On the titular “Don’t Wake Me Up”—the object of our desire—, Eleonora signals her intentions right off the first beat as she conjures a melodic throbbing bassline that contorts in a sublimely sensual fashion, driving across thumping kicks and storming snares before her sweet vocals take the front seat. Laced in a sugary rush, Elenora delivers her catchiest performance to date as her voice blazes through a cascade of pop-infused phrases that sear themselves in our brains with enviable ease. Deep in a lucid dream, she makes us beg for a slumber that never ends as the world around us comes alive in full-blown technicolor, unleashing a glistening retro-infused lead that lights up the track in that oh-so-cool 80s neon hue that cements “Don’t Wake Me Up” as a rousing powerhouse.
Stepping up to the plate for the single’s sole remix, Katermukke co-founder Dirty Doering paints “Don’t Wake Me Up” under a darker shade with a spaced-out vibe where a restless low-end propels us across a heady coalition of synths that meander through a menagerie of tantalizing effects. Trippy, but never overwhelming, Dirty Doering finds that sweet spot, flipping “Don’t Wake Me Up” for a tougher delivery that scratches the right itch.
A fantastic blend of emotion, finesse, energy, and storytelling, “Don’t Wake Me Up” is an absolute gem of a release that will no doubt bring Eleonora’s sound to the wider audience that lies beyond those “someone to watch” lists. Maybe this is Eleonora’s world, and we’re just living in it.
