Leon Vynehall unveils first single from upcoming studio album
Leon Vynehall has announced his third studio album In Daytona Yellow, due out September 19th via his own imprint, Ooze INC. The forthcoming 10-track LP marks a pivotal evolution in Vynehall’s artistry—his most vocally-driven and narratively personal work to date.
Shifting from the abstract textures of 2021’s Rare, Forever, In Daytona Yellow embraces a more traditional songwriting structure, drawing influence from avant-pop currents both past and present. Vynehall describes the album as a meditation on vulnerability: “It’s about the rejection of perfection and embracing vulnerability,” he said about the record. “I wanted to let go of that pressure—to say goodbye to a former version of myself and move forward.”
In Daytona Yellow is the first of Vynehall’s records to feature live vocal collaborations and his own lyrics and vocal performances. Featured guests include TYSON and Jeshi, while POiSON ANNA appears on the LP’s first single, “Mirror’s Edge”—a brooding, left-field anthem that explores themes of ego, self-worth, and fleeting identity.
“I made a quip about Roberta Flack's “The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face”, and how it would be an interesting concept to write a song like that, but it’s about yourself,” Vynehall said of the single. “I wanted to expand that into the duality between ego sex and ego death. Self-loathing and self-love. A narcissism—or, more appropriately, an unfamiliar vanity.”
