Just Her - Sanctuary - Rhythm Cult

UK rising powerhouse DJ/producer Just Her is back thanks to Paul Loraine’s esteemed techno imprint Rhythm Cult with her futuristic 3-track EP, Sanctuary. Chromed and gorgeously polished, Just Her’s latest delivery sees the artist exploring a different shade of the genre that feels like a most welcomed safe haven.

Sultry synthetic swells rise from the midst as vocal chops entice the piece before a full-bodied broken frame takes hold of “Got Me So”. As effervescent arps run amok through the piece, new vocals blossom, adding a warm hue as we venture into a minimalistic breakdown where tension grows with every passing note before collapsing and dissipating, subdued by a dazzling third act designed to stir emotions.

Restless and wonky in equal parts, the second act, “Resistance”, employs a similar use of vocals to create a hypnotic anchor as neon chords and iridescent swells intertwine across sharp hi-hats and a bold frame. Scavenging the frontiers that divide house and techno, “Resistance” is a certified sugar rush infectious enough to do some major late-night damage.

Finally, on the titular “Sanctuary”, Just Her returns to a broken frame to link up with Cessle for a collaborative effort where a surging synthetic arpeggio collides against a myriad of sweet vocal busts. In a disarmingly tantalizing breakdown, a series of spoken words send us into an introspective journey before the pair bring it all back in for one last go at heavenly bliss.

Gripping, emotional, and driving, Just Her’s sublime delivery for Rhythm Cult stands as proof of her evolution as an artist, boasting a mature, full-rounded round, while also serving as hard evidence of breaks’ much-owed revival.
