FRANKIE KNUCKLES' HOUSE MASTERS GOES VINYL
Defected is set to release Frankie Knuckles' acclaimed “House Masters” compilation on vinyl for the first time, delivering a two-part vinyl set in May. This release marks a significant milestone as the compilation, originally unveiled in 2015, is no longer available digitally or on CD.
Comprising Volume One and Volume Two, each LP features eight timeless tracks and remixes from Knuckles, including classics like "Your Love," "The Whistle Song," and "Baby Wants To Ride" featuring Jamie Principle. The vinyl release coincides with the anniversary of the legendary house pioneer's passing, commemorating his enduring influence on the genre.
All proceeds from the vinyl release will benefit The Frankie Knuckles Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting music education in schools, addressing queer youth homelessness, and funding research and education initiatives related to AIDS and diabetes.
Reflecting on the project, Defected Records shared insights into its inception, revealing that the collaboration with Knuckles and his manager Judy Weinstein began in 2013. Despite Knuckles' untimely passing in 2014, the project persisted, with Defected reconnecting with Weinstein to honor Knuckles' legacy with this vinyl release.
Established in 2008, the “House Masters” series celebrates seminal house artists, and the forthcoming Knuckles releases continue this tradition. Accompanying the vinyl set is a special 40-page edition of Faith Magazine, dedicated to chronicling the life and influence of the Chicago icon.
